On Monday 28th September, we were delighted to hold a STEM showcase evening at iFLY Manchester.
A mixture of primary and secondary school teachers, as well as leaders of scouts and girl guides across the north west were invited to step into the shoes of students, taking part in our interactive workshop, followed by 2 exhilarating flights in our wind tunnel – a huge interactive science exhibit.
iFLY Wind Workshop
Our dedicated science tutor Lauren, from Manchester Tutors, discussed the ways our workshops seamlessly blend into the curriculum and syllabus topics, then kicked the workshop off with a simple question “Where are iFLY’s fans located?” and with a variety of answers (of varying accuracy!), the learning began...
During a visit to iFLY, students have the opportunity to engage in a wind powered vehicle making experiment, where they can be as creative as possible in building a Lego model with the aim of having the fastest time on our laser track. Our showcase attendees were intrigued by the experiment and took a hands-on approach getting into teams to build their models before the best bit... RACING! Who knew teachers would be so competitive!
What’s in a workshop?
Earlier this year, iFLY teamed up with FunScience, (who specialise in science workshops and school clubs) to enhance our already popular STEM sessions, tying them in directly to the national curriculum syllabus for Key stages 1 and 2, and Key Stages 3 and 4, offering a legitimate educational value alongside an unforgettable group experience.
When creating our educational packages, we were mindful that funding and budgets can be tight, which is why we offer the best price for the most fun, starting from just £19.99 for our ‘lite’ version.
Showcase success!
Everyone had a blast! After experiencing the dream of flight, each flyer was handed their own personalised flight progression certificate, and everyone was pleased to hear that teachers fly for free with every session! *
It was brilliant to meet local educational leaders face to face and chat about our packages in more detail, assuring us that our workshops are exactly what schools and youth groups really want in a trip.
It’s never too early to start planning 2020 educational trips, and we can’t wait to see them return with an excited group of students behind them.
Don’t worry if you couldn’t attend our STEM showcase on this occasion; we’ll be doing more in the year ahead, so feel free to let us know if you’re interested in attending a future event.
