At iFLY Indoor Skydiving, International Women's Day isn't merely just another date in the diary. It’s a real highlight, a chance to celebrate the incredible women who bring the dream of flying to life every day.
Fancy floating like a bird? At iFLY, you CAN fly. You get to strap on a suit and defy gravity, for real. That said, there's more to it than that. There’s a whole community here, especially women, who are turning the flying dream into everyone’s reality. And guess what? They're smashing it.
Meet Brook. She’s part of the iFLY squad and is passionate about chucking the rulebook out the window when it comes to who can fly.
“What inspires me about working at iFLY is being able to deliver the dream of flight to everyone.”
International Women's Day is a big deal for her because it throws the limelight on what she and the other fabulous ladies here do:
“Women’s Day is special to me because it shines a light on myself and my female colleagues. iFLY creates opportunities for women and empowerment because everyone’s treated as equal irrespective of age, gender, or ability.”
And the best bit? You don’t need a CV packed with daredevil stunts to work here. Brook reveals her top tip for women wanting to work in this industry:
“Just go for it. You don’t need any experience, everything’s taught to you on the job. The most rewarding moments in my career at iFLY are hosting all abilities events, and seeing how much it means to the flyers and their families.”

Across the hall, you’ll hear similar stories of courageous women pushing boundaries and flying face-first into their fears. While we’re all for the adrenaline, freefalling is so much bigger than that. Indoor skydiving is about conquering fears and flipping the script on what's normal. One of our flyers shared:
“Here at iFLY, we’re all about pushing limits. Flying in our wind tunnels might seem like a rush but it’s also about facing fears and shaking up the usual. We’re part of an amazing community of women who are always breaking the mould and supporting each other in achieving female equality.”
Discover the airborne rush at one of our locations near you, including iFLY London at The O2, iFLY Milton Keynes, iFLY Manchester, or iFLY Basingstoke.
So, this International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the rebels, the dreamers, and the pioneers who show us that the tunnel’s just the beginning. At iFLY, we keep the dream alive and expand on it.
One flyer shared:
“Today, let’s give a nod to every woman who’s made a difference in our lives and to those who continue to inspire us every day. Let’s keep supporting one another, sharing our stories and flying high. Not just today but every day. This International Women’s Day, let’s make it count.”
Meet Shannon Seyb, one of our top instructors. Her journey into flying began with a leap from a plane. She was only 18, with the wind in her face, diving out over Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world.
She landed from that jump grinning from ear to ear, buzzing with the kind of freedom that tells you, "I can do anything!"
“Everything about it was amazing – the sense of freedom, I felt like I could do anything. I’ve always been pretty confident but that was a big milestone,” Shannon recalls.
The adventure kicked off with a tandem skydive, prompted by a close group of girlfriends and a mentor who showed her that the sky was just the opening act.
Fast forward 11 years, and Shannon isn’t just flying. She’s teaching. She’s creating. She's been instrumental in changing how women see and enter the sport of indoor skydiving.
“It’s been so nice to watch over the last 10 years how more and more girls and women are made to feel included and can really progress in this sport. They’re learning how to express themselves in the wind, creating something beautiful and artful as well,” she says.
The wind tunnel for Shannon is the ultimate equaliser. It strips away the world's noise, your worries, and, in that moment, it’s just you and the air. Pure bliss, like meditating while hurtling through the sky.
One of Shannon's joys is mentoring new flyers like Char, a young enthusiast eager to master freestyle flying:
“What’s cool about this job now is that I get to do what all those other women did for me – I get to help inspire some of the younger ones. So, one of my students, her name is Char, I love coaching her. She was super interested in getting into freestyle so she asked if I could come and fly with her and it’s just so fun to see her progress.”
Shannon draws inspiration from trailblazers like Inka, a world champion who soared to great heights from humble beginnings.
“Inka just decided she wanted to do it. And so, she did it. She worked up from nothing in an area where there weren’t many women coaches because there weren’t many women flyers. She created a name for herself. She wanted to become a world champion, so she became a world champion. I just remember watching her and was like “I want to do that; I want to dance in the wind like that.”
Shannon's story isn't just about flying. Actually, it's more about lifting others as you climb, or in her case, as you soar. It's about creating a space where women support women, where every challenge met is a ceiling broken.
So, to every gal out there mulling over whether to take the leap – do it. Why? Because why the heck not? You’ll find a squad of supportive women ready to back you up. Not to mention, it’s a stellar way to throw caution to the wind (literally) and have a whale of a time.
So, join us here at iFLY this International Women’s Day and find out how you can spread your wings. As well as the flying part, it’s also a lot about lifting each other up. Because at iFLY, every day is an opportunity to shoot for the stars – or at least, float incredibly high up until you feel like one of them! Trust us, once you’re up there, you won’t want to come down.
